[0:19] Good morning and welcome to Arsenal Daily — your Saturday morning briefing. I'm covering yesterday, Friday May 15th, which was a partial day but honestly packed with enough to fill a full episode.

[0:30] On today's show: Calafiori's training return and the injury picture ahead of Burnley. Four Arsenal names shortlisted for Premier League awards. Calafiori returns to training

[0:55] Top story. Riccardo Calafiori was back in open training at London Colney on Thursday. That's a significant boost after he was subbed at half-time against West Ham on May 10th — Arteta at the time said he had no idea if Calafiori would be available for Burnley.

[1:11] Seeing him out on the grass is the best possible sign. It's not a guarantee — Arteta will still be cautious. But if Calafiori is fit, Arsenal go into Monday with their first-choice left centre-back available. Given what's already missing from the squad, that matters enormously.

PL Awards shortlist

Timber and Koeman

[3:30] Timber update. This is a story worth watching closely. Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has delayed his World Cup squad announcement by two days — from May 25th to May 27th. The stated reason: he wants to personally see, speak to, and assess several players. The unstated — but very obvious — reason: Jurrien Timber.

[3:51] Timber has been out for around nine weeks with a groin injury. He hasn't featured since the Everton game in March. Koeman is also waiting on Justin Kluivert and Memphis Depay, but Timber is the Arsenal connection here.

[4:03] Here's why the Koeman delay matters for Arsenal fans specifically. If Timber is not named in the Dutch squad on May 27th, that's a very strong signal he won't be available for the Champions League final on May 30th either. The Netherlands announcement comes just three days before kick-off in Budapest.

[4:20] Arteta on Timber: "He's progressed a little bit in the last few days. We will try to get him back. He is a really important player for us." He's doing everything he can. How much of a chance is there for the final? Arteta says he cannot tell you. That's honest — and slightly nerve-wracking.

[4:39] The Sky Sports exclusive. Arteta sat down for a wide-ranging interview ahead of the Burnley game. And he was direct. After three consecutive second-place Premier League finishes — three years of watching it slip — he says Arsenal should already have trophies on the shelf.

[4:54] "When you see the trajectory and what we've built in the last few years, and especially in the last four years in terms of consistency, the amount of points and wins, we should have a few big trophies already." That's not whining. That's a man who knows exactly where this team stands.

[5:10] "We still have to make that step of finalising the business. And that's the opportunity we have in the next three days." Three days. Burnley. Monday night. That's what he's talking about.

[5:21] He also described the season as "resilience, ambition, and adaptability" — which honestly is fair. Losing Ben White right now and still setting up for a potential title win while also in a Champions League final is no small thing.

Title race and Burnley preview

[5:35] Title race maths. Quick recap. Arsenal are two points clear of Man City — 79 to 77. Both clubs have two games left. A win over Burnley on Monday does not clinch the title. City have the head-to-head tiebreaker if it's level on points.

[5:52] But if Arsenal beat Burnley — and then City drop points at Bournemouth on Tuesday — the title is Arsenal's. The earliest clinch scenario is Monday night into Tuesday. So yes, it could happen this week.

[6:04] Arsenal vs Burnley: Monday May 18th, 8pm BST, at the Emirates. Burnley are relegated — this is their last away day of a brutal season. Do not expect Arsenal to take it lightly. Arteta won't allow it.

Transfer watch

[6:19] Transfers. Two names. First: Mateus Fernandes from West Ham. The Times broke it, picked up by BBC Sport and Sky Sports Paper Talk. Arsenal are keen on the 21-year-old West Ham midfielder. This is now confirmed interest from multiple credible outlets — The Times is not a gossip column.

[6:39] Fernandes is also nominated for Young Player of the Season. Man United and reportedly PSG and Atletico are also in the race. No formal offer yet, no fee on the table. West Ham's fate — they're still in a relegation fight — may affect the price.

[6:54] Second name: Morten Hjulmand. Danish, 25, defensive midfielder, captain of Sporting CP. Danish outlet Tipsbladet and BBC Sport both report Arsenal and Man United are circling. Valuation around sixty million euros.

[7:12] One note of context here: Tipsbladet suggest United are the more likely destination given Arsenal already have depth at that position. With Rice, Partey, and others in the mix — this may be a case of Arsenal keeping tabs rather than actively pushing. Worth watching, not worth panicking about.

[7:30] One more transfer note: Bruno Fernandes admitted this week that he "always wanted" Declan Rice at Manchester United and was "really sad" when Rice chose Arsenal. Given Rice is now in a PL Player of the Season vote and about to play in a Champions League final — safe to say it worked out.

Upcoming checkpoints

[7:48] Looking ahead. The checkpoints are clear. Monday May 18th: Arsenal vs Burnley, 8pm BST. Win and keep the pressure on. Tuesday May 19th: Man City at Bournemouth. That's the night that could turn Arsenal's season into history.

[8:04] If it goes to the final day — Crystal Palace away, May 24th — Arsenal have to win. City are at home to Aston Villa. The maths are not comfortable, but Arsenal have handled uncomfortable before.

[8:15] And then May 30th in Budapest. PSG in the Champions League final. Whatever happens in the league, that date is in the diary. Timber, Merino — if either of them can be there, it changes Arsenal's shape entirely. The race to get them fit is real.
